Did my bank really call me?

Answer first

End the call and ring back using the number on the back of your card or in your online bank.

The displayed caller number can be spoofed. A familiar number alone therefore does not confirm that the call came from your bank.

Do this instead. Say you will ring back yourself, end the call, and find the number on the back of your card or in your own online bank. Never use a number you were given in a message or on the call.

Your bank does not ask for your online banking codes, does not ask you to move money to a safe account, and does not ask you to install a program on your computer. If somebody asks for any of those, the call is not from your bank.

Urgency is a warning sign. Even when the issue is important, you can end the call and immediately ring the bank’s official number yourself.

If you already gave out your codes

Phone your bank now and tell them what you gave out. Then report it to Poliisi (the police).
