Verkkorauha helps you assess smart-home devices, security services and the claims used to sell them.

What this service does – and does not do

The site covers sales calls, scam messages, choosing smart devices and separating them on a home network. Device pages help you check settings and understand the data a device handles.

  • The consumer-rights guidance and contact routes apply to Finland.
  • Verkkorauha cannot assess an individual dispute or give personal legal advice.
  • The guidance can reduce risk. It cannot guarantee that a device, account or network is safe.
  • The site does not sell, score or recommend individual products or brands.

Independence is part of the answer

  • No advertising, affiliate links or sponsored content.
  • No paid placement from manufacturers or hidden prompts to buy.
  • No buying recommendations based on individual brands or models.

Manufacturer documentation is used for model-specific behaviour, settings and data handling. It is not treated as independent evidence of product security, and marketing copy is not used to justify a purchase.

How information is checked

Checkable claims use a primary source, a visible source reference and a review date. Incorrect or outdated information is corrected or removed.

  1. Primary evidence

    The first choice is official guidance, legislation or original research. Manufacturer documentation is limited to model-specific behaviour, settings and data handling.

  2. Source reference

    Checkable content has a source link or source list. The links open the entries used in the source register.

  3. Checked date

    The register shows when the information was last compared with its source. The date cannot promise that changing information will stay the same.

  4. Correction

    If the source changes or a claim proves wrong, the claim is corrected or removed. The source entry and checked date are updated too.

What stays in your browser

Progress in checklists and step-by-step guides is stored in your browser's local storage. The site does not send these stored values to Verkkorauha.

Search processes the words you type against a local index in the browser and does not send them to a separate search service. If you open or share a URL containing a search, the words are part of that URL. Checklist ticks are not sent to the server.

  • No user accounts or profiles stored on a server.
  • No advertising, user profiles or cross-site tracking.
  • No analytics cookies or use of browser storage.
Technical visitor measurement

Cloudflare Web Analytics counts visits and page views and measures page-loading performance. It receives the page path, referring site's hostname, country, and basic browser and device information. Source

The measurement does not set or read cookies, and it does not use local storage, session storage or the browser database. Cloudflare receives the IP address with the request but says it discards it at the nearest data centre without storing it in the analytics database or logs. Source

The measurement does not record the query string. A search term can appear in your own browser and in a URL you share, but Cloudflare Analytics does not receive it. Source

Accessibility target

Verkkorauha aims to meet WCAG 2.2 at level AA. This is a development target, not a claim of audited conformance.

Development includes automated checks and browser tests. They do not replace user testing or an independent accessibility audit.

Maintenance and security

The site is maintained by eightscrow.dev. The link opens the maintainer's current website.

Instructions for reporting a security issue and the current contact route are in the security.txt file.

When you need advice about your own case

Verkkorauha describes the law in general and cannot assess an individual dispute. Consumer Advisory Services gives free guidance by telephone and through a contact form. Source
