About Verkkorauha

Verkkorauha helps you assess smart-home devices, security services and the claims used to sell them.

Written for people in Finland

The device and home-network guidance is useful elsewhere too. The consumer-rights guidance and contact details apply to Finland, and EU rules are described as they apply in Finland.

What you will find here

The site covers sales calls and scam messages, choosing a smart device, and separating smart devices from computers and phones on a home network.

The device pages explain what common smart devices handle and which settings are worth checking.

No ads and no tracking

  • No advertising, affiliate links or sponsored content.
  • No visitor tracking, cookies or third-party content.
  • No recommendations for individual brands or models.

Checklist ticks are stored only in your browser. Search also runs on your device, so the words you type are not sent to a server.

Sources and checked dates

Information about law, official guidance and product categories is based on named sources. The source list gives the publisher, original address and date checked.

A checked date tells you when the information was last compared with its source. Laws, guidance and product behaviour can change after that date.

When you need advice about your own case

Verkkorauha describes the law in general and cannot assess an individual dispute. Consumer Advisory Services gives free guidance by telephone and through a contact form.

The service gives guidance in Finnish and Swedish. If you need another language, you must arrange and pay for an interpreter yourself; the advice number answers in Finnish.Source: Kilpailu- ja kuluttajavirastoSee the English information from the Finnish Competition and Consumer Authority.
