What does the CE marking tell you about security?

Answer first

It is the manufacturer's own declaration that the product meets EU requirements. Nobody outside the company issued it.

The CE marking is compulsory, and its absence is a serious warning sign. Its presence tells you less than most people assume.

The marking means the manufacturer declares that the product meets the requirements. In most product groups nobody outside the company has checked that.

On internet-connected radio equipment the requirements have included security since 1 August 2025. There is more behind the marking than there used to be, but it is still the manufacturer’s own declaration.

So do not build a buying decision on the marking. How long update support lasts is still the question that tells one device from another.
