What does the CE marking tell you about security?

The manufacturer affixes it to declare that the product meets the EU requirements that apply. It is not a certificate issued to the product by the EU or an authority.

The CE marking is compulsory only for product groups covered by EU rules that require it. Its absence from such a product is a serious warning sign.

The manufacturer is responsible for the conformity assessment and affixes the marking. Some product groups require a notified body to take part, but the marking is not a certificate issued by the EU.

Certain radio equipment placed on the EU market from 1 August 2025 has to meet security requirements too. There is more behind the marking, but it is still the manufacturer’s declaration.

So do not build a buying decision on the marking. How long update support lasts is still the question that tells one device from another.
