Age alone does not decide. If the manufacturer's update support has ended, replace the router.
A router’s age alone does not show whether it is secure. The risk grows when the manufacturer no longer fixes flaws in its software.
Fixes arrive as firmware updates. When the manufacturer stops making them, the known holes stay in the device for good.
The FBI warned on 7 May 2025 that criminals take over routers exactly like these and use them to cover their tracks. According to that notice, devices made in 2010 or earlier are unlikely to get any updates at all.
Check the support status rather than age alone. Also make sure the wireless network uses current encryption and remote management is off when you do not need it.
