It depends on the model. A monitor that joins your network is a camera, and the same rules apply to it as to any other camera.

There are two kinds of baby monitor. One sends sound straight to a receiver over radio. The other joins your home network and shows up in an app on your phone.

A networked monitor with video works like a security camera. Check its unique password, updates, account protection and method of remote access.

The EU security requirements also cover certain radio equipment used for childcare. They apply to devices placed on the EU market from 1 August 2025.

The device can go on a guest network when the router isolates it from the main network and any required local controls still work.
