Can my security camera be hacked?

Answer first

It can. A unique password, two-factor authentication, updates and closing unnecessary inbound connections reduce the risk.

Replace any universal default password. If the camera uses a manufacturer account, protect that with a unique password and two-factor authentication too.

Do not open a port in the router to the camera unless the manufacturer’s instructions explicitly require it and you know how the connection is protected. Many cameras provide remote viewing through their app without port forwarding.

A software flaw in the device can only be repaired by a manufacturer update. Other settings may restrict connections, but they do not remove the flaw itself.

Also check where recordings are stored and remove old users who should no longer have access.
