What to know about this device

A camera handles pictures of your home and sometimes sound too. Check the account security, updates, remote access and storage location when setting it up.

Replace any universal default password and turn on two-factor authentication. Do not create a direct internet connection in the router just for remote viewing. Check the camera manufacturer’s instructions for the correct connection method.

Where recordings are stored depends on the model

A recording may sit on a memory card, a separate recorder, the manufacturer’s cloud service or in more than one place. A copy outside the home may survive if the camera is stolen or damaged. Check the retention period and deletion controls too.
