Does a robot vacuum see the floor plan of my home?
Answer first
A mapping model creates a map of your home. Storage and deletion depend on the manufacturer; for example, iRobot stores Smart Maps in the cloud.
A mapping vacuum measures the shape of your home so it can clean by room, avoid marked areas and return to its dock. The available functions vary by model.
The map can contain room boundaries and furniture positions. If the vacuum has a camera, check separately whether its pictures are stored or uploaded.
iRobot says it stores Smart Maps in the cloud. You can disable the sending of map data, but doing so also disables the features that use the map. Other brands may work differently.
Delete the maps, factory-reset the device and remove it from your account before selling it or passing it on.
