Probably not for ordinary browsing. HTTPS protects website content, while a VPN does not stop scams, leaked passwords or malware.
An HTTPS connection encrypts content between your browser and a website. A VPN also encrypts the section between your device and the VPN server, but it does not verify the website or secure your device.
A VPN changes who can observe connection details and where traffic leaves the encrypted tunnel. The provider’s ownership, data practices and independent audits therefore matter when choosing one.
Research into VPN advertising found systematic exaggeration of online threats. First decide whether you need work access, privacy from a local network, a different apparent location or access through a restricted network. Without a need like that, most people can skip the subscription.
A VPN does not stop scam messages, abuse of a leaked password or software flaws in an unpatched device. Address those risks separately.
